What Is An Ingrown Hair

An ingrown hair is a hair that has curled in and penetrated the skin with its tip instead of growing outwards. Commonly known as razor bumps, ingrown hair generally results in inflammatory conditions. Ingrown hair is described by the medical term pseudofolliculitis barbae or PFB. People with curly hair are at a higher risk and while almost 65% Afro Americans are afflicted by this condition, only 20% white Caucasians face this problem.

· What Are The Causes Of Ingrown Hair?

The main cause of ingrown hair in both men and women is hair removal through techniques like shaving, tweezing, electrolysis, waxing and cream depilation, which often irritates the hair follicle and results in an inflammation. While men generally encounter razor bumps on their faces, women may have ingrown hair on legs, underarms, bikini area and any other place where they might have carried out hair removal. People with dry skin are at a higher risk of getting ingrown hair. Stiff, curly or coarse hair is also more prone to getting ingrown. Other factors that cause ingrown hair are genetics, build up of dead skin cells that clog pores and hair follicles that are full of oil.

· What Are The Symptoms Of An Ingrown Hair?

The most common symptom of a ingrown hair is inflammation of the skin. While at times this can be painless, it is generally accompanied by tingling, itching and redness. In many cases, an ingrown hair results in a painful pus filled blister. Many a times, ingrown hair gets infected by yeast, bacteria or fungi, further exaggerating the problem.

· How Is An Ingrown Hair Diagnosed?

Ingrown hair symptoms vary from person to person and the best way to diagnose this condition is to get it examined by a dermatologist.

· How Is Ingrown Hair Treated?

In case you have inflamed ingrown hairs that keep getting infected or are very painful, then you should get them treated at a dermatology clinic. Treatment of ingrown hair generally involves the use of electrolysis and depilation.

· How Can You Avoid Getting Ingrown Hair?

In cases where a tendency to have ingrown hairisn’t genetic, this condition can be avoided through proper skin care and depilation methods. A skin care regime that involves regular moisturization and exfoliation will make your skin soft and smooth, providing less resistance to growing hair and result in a decrease in the number of ingrown hair. Make it a point to exfoliate with a loofah every time you take a bath and moisturize your skin afterwards with a body lotion.

Dermatology experts also suggest that one should shave in the direction of the growth of hair instead of shaving in the opposite direction. While this might not give you a very close shave, it will definitely prevent ingrown hair. Both men and women should apply an aftershave lotion to avoid infection of hair follicles.

Sudocrem For Ingrown Hair

Sudocrem Ingrown Hair ProductI was away from home and unfortunately for me, I forgot my normal products for treating my shaving problem.

I came across www.acne.org which is another great free resource site, there was some helpful advice regrading acne which really goes more or less hand in hand with ingrown hair to an extent.

I took the step to buy Sudocrem, it was fairly cheap and quite easy to come across.

The result has been ok, not up to what I was used with my regular ingrown hair treatment products, but I was away from home; so it what was better than nothing.

It has a mild sting to it, and you need to make sure that you apply a very small film of on your skin.

If you take a big dollop, it is really hard to rub in and you will have white slighty greasy spots where it doesn’t rub into the skin that well.

A small amount, just a light touch of the product with your fingertips will  leave enough to cover the affected area, if you need, you just need to repeat the process until the areas affected by ingrowing hair are thoroughly covered.

It doesn’t reduce the effect o the ingrowing hair and will suffice until you get a better product.

Tweezerman Ingrown Hair Tweezers

The Tweezerman Ingrown Hair Tweezers was specially developed to remove ingrowing hair.
It has an ultra sharp, elongated pointer to reach out and grab the ingrowing hair that may just be under the skin, causing great irritation.
It is just like a any tweezer, so it can be used to remove any splinters, thorns or any small foreign objects that penetrates the skin.

They have been designed using the highest grade surgical material for use against the skin.
The extra long pointers allows for easy movement around the body and so making it that little bit easier to remove the ingrowing hair from your skin.
The Tweezerman Ingrown Hair Tweezer is small enough to carry around, so if you suffer from ingrowing hair  frequently then this is a great bit of item to carry around.

Schick Quattro Bikini Razor

The new Schick Quattro Bikini Razor produced by Wilkinson Sword has finally arrived in the UK with a somewhat funny advert to boot.

The advert is loosely based on the US version but a bit more in your face.

It’s been designed specifically as a Bikini Razor  for trimming and around that area.

It has a mixed review at the moment on Amazon, with some users being very pleased with it and some saying that it wasn’t that great.

Here’s the video for the advert:

Anthony Logistics Ingrown Hair Treatment

Well I have just heard about this product from a good friend of mine who suffers from the problem of ingrown hair as me.

The road for him has been up and down as well,  hearing of the latest and greatest product and then when you shell out the money; well you find out that the marketing was very slick!

Anyway, he has been using it for about a month and bit and he said the burning sensation and the acne like puss have mostly gone and the ones that come up are gone in a day. So it sounds very promising.
